Where did the conference name come from?


The dream of every aspiring VoIP / WebRTC / Telecom Engineer is "to get a clue." Getting a clue never comes easy and takes years of hard work and dedication. For over 13 years the ClueCon Technology Developers Conference has been dedicated to helping the FreeSWITCH team and other software engineers "get a clue."

What is ClueCon in relation to FreeSWITCH?


ClueCon is where it all began. The idea of FreeSWITCH was thought up at the first ClueCon in 2005; the plan was born based on the ideas that were bounced around during that first 3 day conference. The core members of the team worked hard for the next 12 months, and FreeSWITCH was presented for the first time at ClueCon 2006.

When was ClueCon started?


The ClueCon conference was started in 2005 and over the years has grown with help from our sponsors, attendees and the members of the open-source community. Chicago, Illinois is the hub for the annual conference, taking advantage of the many first-rate hotels that the city has to offer.

How do I get from the airport to the Conference?


Chicago has many options for transportation from subways to taxi cabs. For information about getting around Chicago via the subway system visit The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) website for fare information. The CTA offers transit from both O’Hare and Midway. For information about how to get from O’Hare to the Hotel via public transportation click here. For information about how to get from Midway to the Hotel via public transportation click here. If you wish to take a cab the cost from O’Hare will be approximately $55 one way and Midway will be approximately $40 one way. NOTE: You may not wish to rent a car, parking downtown can run in excess of $60 per day.

Are there organized events at night?


Yes! First up is our annual Monday night pizza party at Giordano’s. This event is only available to the first 100 people registered so signup early to reserve your seat at the table. Up next is the ClueCon Gigabit reception from 8:00pm to midnight on Tuesday night. Everyone is welcome to attend and the evening will include complimentary beer, wine, and hors d'oeuvres. The Wednesday and Thursday evenings are reserved for custom activities supported by our sponsors. Events include the VoiceTel sunset boat tour on Lake Michigan, FreeSWITCH and Digivox's bowling party, and the SuperPhreak! Telnyx party with drinks, dinner and a live band.

Is there a way to get updates during the conference?

How early should I register?


Registration opens by January every year. Register for ClueCon anytime between January and August, but remember some of our night events have group limits on them, so the earlier you can register, the better. This will ensure you a spot in all events.

What type of talks will I hear at ClueCon?


You will hear a variety of talks ranging from technical demonstrations of leading communication solutions to conceptual innovations looking for real world solutions.

When does registration open at the conference?

Are breakfasts, lunches and dinners included in the registration costs?


Lunch is included each day with the registration costs. For early risers we will have limited complimentary pastries and fruit available in the FreeSWITCH Lounge near registration. Dinner is not included.

What other activities are available near the hotel?


There are many different activities in Chicago. The list includes restaurants, bars, and various shows. including restaurants, bars, and various shows. Navy Pier, The Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium and the Alder Planetarium are just a few attractions that the city has to offer. Please visit our Chicago page for more information.
