STIR/SHAKEN: How Robocalls and Scammers Met Their Robocop
The telephony industry has been plagued by robocalls and spam calls, including caller ID spoofing, since its inception. STIR/SHAKEN is a protocol that aims to solve that problem by using a call signature mechanisms similar to HTTPS and Letsencrypt. SignalWire has sponsored development of the “libstirshaken” open source library, that is being used as a reference implementation and has already been adopted by multiple important projects. We will go over what STIR/SHAKEN is, how it can be integrated with existing applications, and what the future holds for industry adoption.
