The dream of every aspiring VoIP / WebRTC / Telecom Engineer is “to get a clue.” Getting a clue never comes easy and takes years of hard work and dedication. For over 15 years the ClueCon Technology Developers Conference has been dedicated to helping the FreeSWITCH team and other software engineers “get a clue.”
ClueCon is where it all began. The idea of FreeSWITCH was thought up at the first ClueCon in 2005; the plan was born based on the ideas that were bounced around during that first 3 day conference. The core members of the team worked hard for the next 12 months, and FreeSWITCH was presented for the first time at ClueCon 2006.
The ClueCon conference was started in 2005 and over the years has grown with help from our sponsors, attendees and the members of the open-source community. Chicago, Illinois is the hub for the annual conference, taking advantage of the many first-rate hotels that the city has to offer.

Chicago has many options for transportation from subways to taxi cabs and pretty much anything in-between. For information about getting around Chicago via the subway system visit The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) website for fare information. The CTA offers transit from both O’Hare and Midway. For information about how to get from O’Hare to the Hotel via public transportation click here. For information about how to get from Midway to the Hotel via public transportation click here. A cab from O’Hare to the hotel will be approximately $55 one way. The cost from Midway will be approximately $40. Lyft or Uber are both options as well, although rates vary. NOTE: Renting a car is not advised because parking downtown is expensive and difficult.
Yes! First up is our annual Monday night dinner sponsored by Flowroute and FreeSWITCH. This year’s dinner will be held at Last Resort on the river’s edge and will also offer a cash bar. Up next is the ClueCon Gigabit Reception from 8:00pm to midnight on Tuesday evening. Everyone is welcome to attend! The reception will include complimentary beer, wine, and hors d’oeuvres. Wednesday and Thursday evenings are reserved for custom activities supported by our sponsors. Thursday’s event is the VoiceTel Sunset Boat Tour on Lake Michigan. This was a definite favorite of last year’s attendees, so make sure to stick around Thursday evening to enjoy that event!
This year ClueCon will be using the Attendify app as our primary method of communication to keep everyone up to date. If you have registered for ClueCon you can download the Attendify app and choose ClueCon as your conference. After you sign up for the app, you will receive an email inviting you into the group. There will be a ton of useful information on the app as well as a social aspect where you can post, comment, and share photos. Updates will also be posted on our social media pages so follow us on Twitter @cluecon, on Facebook, and on our new Slack channel.
Registration opens by January every year. Register for ClueCon anytime between January and August, but remember some of our night events have group limits on them, so the earlier you can register, the better. Registering early will ensure you a spot in all events.

There are many different options available in Chicago. The list includes restaurants, bars, and various shows. Navy Pier, The Field Museum, The Shedd Aquarium and the Alder Planetarium are just a few attractions that the city has to offer. Please visit our Chicago page for more information.
Coder Games:
The Coder Games is ClueCon’s version of hack-a-thon with a few surprises thrown in. We challenge our attendees to several fun challenges for people of all technical skills. The Coder Games are a great way to meet people in a relaxed environment: try your hand at building popsicle stick contraptions or dig into some API’s!
Yes, anyone who is attending ClueCon can sign up for the Coder Games.
We encourage all forms of participation! Feel free to sit in Lucerne and observe, assist, eat a snack, or get some work done. We also have a few demo events which are always fun to watch.
We encourage everyone to participate in the Coder Games and do not have an official registration: just hop in and participate! You can either speak with a team leader for help, or follow the written instructions on the table. When you submit a challenge to the judges you are officially eligible to win a prize. However, when you register for ClueCon, it is helpful to check whether or not you will be attending the Coder Games so that we can better plan for the event.
You can participate in as many or as few challenges as your heart desires. You can even combine challenges to receive a super secret bonus prize.

We accept solo entries as well as teams of all sizes. If you need help finding a teammate, contact a team leader and they will help find you a partner.
We provide a plethora of materials to work with, but it’s not against the rules to Amazon Prime a thing or two.
